Mission
Bay Area Romance Writers is a professional organization that celebrates the romance genre and embraces a diverse community of aspiring and experienced authors and publishing professionals pursuing a successful career in the romance genre.
CORE VALUES
All publishing industry professionals are welcome. You belong here no matter your publication status, publishing path, role in the publishing industry, romance sub-genre, or heat level. A passion for the romance genre is the primary criteria for our membership.
We are committed to creating a supportive community through mentorship, networking, and education that is rooted in the respectful exchange of ideas.
The Board
President – Amber Sumner
The President of BARW is responsible for setting the tone and organizational agenda within the framework of the Bay Area Romance Writers bylaws, vision statement, and membership needs.
Membership – Lisa Demers
VP of Membership of BARW)is responsible for maintaining membership information and forum subscriptions, as well as communicating with members regarding their membership status.
Programming – Gwen Jody
VP of Programs for BARW is responsible for booking speakers for meetings, working with the VP of Communication to ensure that programs are announced and advertised, managing the logistics of the speaker’s participation, serving as the official liaison between the speaker and BARW, and updating the organization about upcoming programs.
Communications – Gail Carriger
The VP of Communications for BARW facilitates public-facing information transfer. This position plans and oversees communications tools for public relations, including newsletter, website, and social media outlets (plus any similar obligations designated by the Board). VP Communications can delegate tasks to BARW member volunteer(s) or contractors as needed and authorized by the Board.
Secretary – Carolina Montague
The Secretary of BARW is responsible for documenting and preserving a written record of the actions of the Board.
Treasurer – Kris Kendall
BARW Treasurer is responsible for all assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and financial records of BARW.
